GARDENERS GATHER AT PAVILION PARK
June 26, 2014
Great Park Neighborhoods is designed to provide a sustainable mixed-use lifestyle allowing people to live, work, play, learn and connect in the neighborhood. Building on that philosophy, Great Park Neighborhoods has been hosting monthly gardening workshops at Pavilion Park to bring residents together for learning opportunities.
The gardening workshops emphasize garden-to-table plantings and sustainable landscape practices. The monthly workshops, which will continue through November, are led by the UC Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners of Orange County.
Workshops alternate between hands on activities and informative lectures, often providing participants with potted plants and flowers to take home. Workshops thus far have included Tomatoes, Peppers, and Squash, Oh My! where participants learned how to care for a warm season veggie garden; Bodacious Blooming Baskets! an interactive lesson where attendees designed their own stunning flower arrangements; and the latest workshop: Herb Gardens, where eager cooks learned how to grow their own herbs to spice up their summer meals. Upcoming workshops highlight the importance of water conservation and low maintenance landscape.
Workshops are free and open to the public, but class sizes are limited. For more information on upcoming classes and to pre-register, visithttp://greatparkneighborhoods.com/events/.
Whether youve got a green thumb or just want to learn more about gardening, these workshops are perfect for all!
