A DECADE OF DOING THINGS DIFFERENTLY
Ten years ago, the land that's now home to our multi-dimensional community was home to citrus groves and the former Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro. But we had a vision of restored habitats and responsible development. Where neighbors stroll past mature trees, kids splash in sparkling pools and orange bikes are always ready to ride. Today, we're taking a look back at all that forward-thinking and all the fun we've had over a decade.

We Believe
In the power of community
Come all you thinkers, doers, enthusiasts, bohemians, traditionalists, trail blazers, and believers in the deeper meaning and value of community. Welcome to Great Park Neighborhoods.
Welcome homes
Great-big homes. Just-right homes. Townhomes, paired homes and more. In 10 years we've opened 7 neighborhoods brimming with beautifully crafted homes of all sizes and styles. Homes that over 12,000 residents are proud to call home today.
Parks with pools. Parks with art. Parks with treehouses, playgrounds and patios. For just about everything that’s fun to do, there’s a park here in which to do it.

A bike in

There’s just something about the promise of a shiny new bike. The places you’ll go, the people you’ll meet and the fun you’ll have. Since day one, we’ve gifted a new orange bike to each and every new household. It’s human-powered human connection. (And a ton of fun.)
Bikes are a big deal here. Naturally, trails are too. That’s why we have over 20 miles of them that crisscross parks, neighborhoods, community spaces, special places — basically, everywhere you want to be.
In 2014 we unveiled the Sharestream, a shiny rolling ambassador of fun that brought a friendly welcome and a heartfelt “hi” everywhere it went. There was still a lot of life (and miles!) left in this old 1972 Airstream — especially after we lovingly restored it, outfitted it and brought it back to its bright, shiny glory.

The largest oral history project of its kind, StoryCorps provides a platform for people to share their stories and preserve them forever. (More than 640,000 voices have been preserved in the Library of Congress to date!) In 2019, we brought them to the OC to capture the stories of Irvine and beyond. The result was an unscripted, unforgettable experience for us all.
A smart start
Here’s some easy math for you:
3 K – 8 schools
+ 1 high school
+ Irvine Unified School District
= kids set up for a lifetime of success.
Early risers had a big reason to celebrate in 2019. That's when we opened The Cup — our first neighborhood coffee shop. Today it's operated by a Great Park resident and serves Blue Hummingbird Coffee.
Who says developing something new means losing something old? We were committed to rescuing hundreds of mature trees that had called El Toro Marine Base home for decades. So we temporarily moved them to boxes and replanted them in our new neighborhoods with care. (Except for the towering pine in Parasol Park — we built the whole neighborhood around that!)
How does the orange bike cross the road? In 2016, it was over our very first pedestrian bridge, which connected our first neighborhood (Pavilion Park) to our other new neighborhoods … and eventually to the Great Park itself.

A decade of different sure feels nice. Here’s to our residents, to Irvine, to community and to many more years to come.
